Trans-Tasman Portability

What is the Trans-Tasman Retirement Savings Portability Scheme?

The Trans-Tasman retirement savings portability scheme is an initiative which took effect on 1 July 2013 and allows KiwiSaver members who permanently emigrate to Australia to move their KiwiSaver money to a complying superannuation scheme that is regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority in Australia (“Australian complying superannuation scheme”) and allows transfers from KiwiSaver schemes. It also allows Australians who permanently immigrate to New Zealand, and returning New Zealanders, to move their superannuation from an Australian complying superannuation scheme to a KiwiSaver scheme if they want to.
